Build quality and design

The Xiaomi 17T features a sandwich design with a plastic middle frame and Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection for the display and the glass back panel. The plastic build means a lightweight frame (200 gms), but it feels less premium than the aircraft-grade aluminum build of the Motorola Edge 70 Pro+.

The Motorola Edge 70 Pro+ features the same Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection for the display. It also comes with a smudge-resistant vegan-inspired back panel, which delivers a much better grip and a unique in-hand feel than the Xiaomi offering. Despite the aluminum frame, the Motorola phone weighs less than its competitor, coming in at 190 gms.

Both phones feature IP68 and IP69 ratings, which bodes well for their environmental damage protection.

Display and chipset

Motorola arrives with a curved 6.8-inch Extreme AMOLED display. It supports up to 450 ppi pixel density for sharp visuals, HDR10+ with 100% DCI-P3 color space, over a billion color shades, and a peak brightness of 5200 nits. This device delivers impressive color accuracy and visual clarity.

On the other hand, the Xiaomi 17T features a smaller 6.59-inch eye-care AMOLED display with up to 3500 nits peak brightness. With 100% DCI-P3 and 68 billion color shades, it also delivers a color-accurate display. Xiaomi has also incorporated up to 3840 Hz PWM dimming for eye protection during extended usage.

The MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra and the Dimensity 8500 Extreme are technically the same chipsets. The suffixes differ mainly because of different branding rights negotiated by smartphone brands.

So, thanks to the octa-core, premium mid-range MediaTek SoCs, both smartphone processors clock a maximum boost speed of up to 3.4 GHz. Both devices feature the Mali G-720 GPU for your graphical and multitasking needs while the NPU 880 fulfills your AI requirements.

Camera and battery

Xiaomi has incorporated a 50 MP + 50 MP + 12 MP rear camera setup on the back of the 17T. Due to Xiaomi’s partnership with Leica, the lenses deliver impressive captures, while the 32 MP front camera produces clear selfies.

However, the 50 MP + 50 MP + 50 MP triple back camera setup of the Motorola Edge 70 Pro+ with a Sony LYTIA main sensor performs much better than its competitor. Motorola has also incorporated a 50 MP front camera for much better selfies than those captured by the Xiaomi 17T.

Both smartphones feature a 6500 mAh battery, but Motorola’s 90 W TurboPower wired charging can charge the phone’s battery faster than Xiaomi’s 67W HyperCharge fast charging.

As far as the two phones’ prices are concerned, the Xiaomi 17T’s base variant starts from 59,999 rupees, while the Motorola Edge 70 Pro+’s base variant begins at 47,999 rupees.

Which is the better smartphone?

After assessing the crucial device specifications of these two smartphones, the Motorola Edge 70 Pro+ is the winner in this comparison. It features the same premium mid-range SoC as the Xiaomi 17T but comes with a much better display, build, and camera while also being priced significantly lower than the Xiaomi smartphone.
