FIA Formula 3 driver Brad Benevides has confirmed he suffered broken vertebra after a first lap crash in Monaco.
During the Sprint race on Saturday morning in the Principality, Benevides was caught in a first-lap accident where he clipped another car before being pitched into the air, before forcefully landing on all four wheels.
He was then nudged into a barrier by the following Christian Ho of Rodin Motorsport, and was transported to hospital for checks.
Taking to social media and posting a photo of himself in bed, the AIX Racing driver wrote on Instagram Stories that he had “3 broken vertebrae in such a small accident, fate deemed it so.”
The race was won by Gerrard Xie of DAMS, after original winner Hiyu Yamakoshi of Van Amersfoort Racing was disqualified hours after the flag for a technical infringement.
