Following our previous look at an opening for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in AI-enabled Design and Building Technology at the University of Hong Kong, we are using this week’s edition of our Job Highlights series to explore an open role on Archinect Jobs for an Environmental Graphics Designer at Pentagram.
The role, based in New York City, calls on a designer focused on environmental graphics to work on the firm’s signage and exhibition design projects. Among the responsibilities for the role will be working with the design team to develop projects from concept to implementation, and working with project managers on developing project schedules, deliverables, and scopes of work. The role calls for proficiency in Rhino and Adobe CC as well as strong typographic skills.

Why the role interests us
The open role at Pentagram comes as the opening date approaches for the Memphis Art Museum, for which Pentagram led the visual identity. Due to open in December of this year, the new 122,000-square-foot center was designed by Herzog & de Meuron, with local firm archimania serving as the architect of record, and landscape architecture by OLIN.
For the project, Pentagram designed a lettering and logo approach derived from cross-section drawings of the new building. Meanwhile, colors were selected to emphasize the creative spirit of the city known throughout the world for its contributions to Jazz music and African-American literature.
“The new logo emphasizes flexibility and is designed to be dynamic, modulating both vertically and horizontally,” the firm has previously said about the approach. “The brand direction came from working directly with Memphians, while the logo letter shapes are derived from the cascading architecture of the new building. The identity provides a host of new colors and applications that allow it to be fluid and distinctive at the same time, reflected in a custom typeface that is infinitely adaptable.”
