Glen Powell has proven himself a modern movie star, thanks to memorable roles in hit films like Top Gun: Maverick, Twisters, and Anyone But You. 2026 has been a big year for the actor, thanks to performances in How to Make a Killing and voicing Fox McCloud in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Powell isn’t quite done with 2026, as he leads J.J. Abrams’ upcoming sci-fi film The Great Beyond later in the year. One of Powell’s upcoming films will see him team up with a director of a high-profile DC film.
Deadline reports that Supergirl director Craig Gillespie is in talks to direct the sci-fi thriller Homewreckers for Legendary Pictures. Powell has been signed on to star and produce Homewreckers since December 2024. Homewreckers is based on an unpublished novella by Neil Paik, with the author signed on to adapt the screenplay. The movie’s logline is being kept under wraps.
Homewreckers sparked a competitive bidding war in 2024, with Legendary Pictures beating out Lionsgate, New Regency, Sony, and Warner Bros. for the rights. It is unclear whether Homewreckers will be distributed by Paramount Pictures as part of Legendary Pictures’ three-year deal signed in September 2025. No release date for Homewreckers has been set, though the film could aim for 2027. Powell is set to headline Judd Apatow’s The Comeback King, which will be released by Universal Pictures on Feb. 5, 2027.
In addition to Supergirl, Gillespie’s credits include I, Tonya, Dumb Money, Lars and the Real Girls, Cruella, and Fright Night. Gillespie has also worked on acclaimed series like Pam & Tommy and Your Friends and Neighbors. The filmmaker’s body of work shows a diversity of genres, making him an exciting pick for a sci-fi erotic thriller like Homewreckers. Gillespie’s potential booking of Homewreckers before Supergirl is released can be seen as a smart business decision.
Early word-of-mouth on Supergirl was positive, though more recent social media reactions have been mixed. Supergirl was originally eyeing an opening weekend between $50 and $60 million, though some reports have suggested the estimation could be trending down. That is certainly not a good sign for the DCU’s second film, though Supergirl star Milly Alcock is already set to reprise her role as Kara Zor-El in 2027’s Man of Tomorrow. Regardless of how Supergirl performs, it is clear Gillespie is a director that studios and actors want to work with, and Homewreckers could make for an interesting follow-up to a DC superhero title.
