Radio One Houston has partnered with the Harris County One for All Foundation and Mostyn Law to launch the Future Voices Media Lab, a new summer initiative designed to expose Houston-area students to careers in radio broadcasting, digital media, podcasting and content creation, giving them hands-on learning opportunities at Radio One Houston’s studios.
Beginning this summer, a select group of school-aged students from the One for All Foundation – which serves youth throughout Harris County through educational, leadership, recreational and summer programming opportunities – will participate in a four-day intensive media experience, including two days inside Radio One Houston’s studios, home to stations such as urban AC “Majic 102.1” KMJQ and rhythmic CHR “97.9 The Box” KBXX.
Students participating in the program will learn radio programming and broadcasting fundamentals, podcasting and audio production, social media and digital storytelling, promotions and event marketing, audio engineering and studio operations, team collaboration and public presentation skills. With the guidance and mentorship from industry professionals, students will work together to build and present their own radio station concepts, complete with branding, commercials, promotions and digital content campaigns.
