Welcome to the Jungle has opened to 10-15 per cent occupancy in the morning, which is a low opening. Having said that, the film had previews last night, which drew 25 per cent occupancy. Without these shows taking away from the first-day-first-show business, the opening could have been better.
Typically, noon shows stay on par with morning shows, at times even drop. Welcome To The Jungle should fare better, given the first show isn’t that boosted by initial demand, and there is a holiday today. The initial reception seems to be good from the previews last night, so that should help.
The previous Akshay Kumar film, Bhooth Bangla, collected Rs. 3.60 crore on previews and around Rs. 12 crore on the first day. Welcome To The Jungle will aim for improving on that, preferably get over Rs. 15 crore today, given the holiday.
Ideally, the film should open much bigger, somewhere around Rs. 40 crore or more, given the strong IP value. However, the film hasn’t made use of it. The treatment seems to be more of a spoof/parody rather than a broader, appealing family entertainer, which the first two films in the franchise were. Still, if the film can sustain at this opening, it can sail through. Bhooth Bangla managed to do that, but their competition was a lot lax compared to Welcome.
There is another blockbuster comedy franchise release today, Carry on Jatta 4, which has opened well but is below the franchise standards, which have given 3 ATBBs till now.
