Princess Anne hilariously agreed with a royal guard, who placed the blame for an unpleasant smell on King Charles during a visit in Scotland on Tuesday. The 75-year-old joined the King, Queen Camilla and Prince Edward to attend the Garden Party in the gardens of the Palace of Holyroodhouse on June 30.
The event marked the final royal garden party of the year and the only one held at the official royal residence in Edinburgh. But it also served as the kickoff of Royal Week, also known as Holyrood Week, which runs from June 30 to July 3. As Anne and Edward chatted to guests, Anne appear to notice an unpleasant smell nearby, prompting her to hilariously ask one of the guards if it came from him.
According to expert analyst and professional lipreader Nicola Hickling, the guard than appeared to shift the blame to an unknowing Charles, jokingly telling her: “I think it was Charles.”
Anne then added, “We need to move,” before making a hilarious accusation of, “perhaps it was Charles,” which prompted laughter from those around them.
For her outfit on Tuesday, Anne stepped out in yet another coat that has become a regular feature of her wardrobe.
Known as the “Nehru Coat” by British brand Shibumi, Anne rewore the cashmere and silk blend piece was sewn with intricate floral patterns and made in India.
She had previously been seen wearing the embroidered coat to a Buckingham Palace garden party in 2022, as well as at Commonwealth Day services and Royal Ascot in 2024.
Anne is known to have a lovely relationship with her older brother, with a sweet nickname that she has for him previous revealed during a behind-the-scenes video from the King’s coronation in 2023.
In the clip, captured in the documentary Charles II: The Coronation Year, the Princess Royal can be seen walking into the Centre Room and addressing the King simply by saying “Hello Old Bean”.
As he heard the nickname, the King laughed before greeting his sister.
