Former F1 driver Martin Brundle has stated Max Verstappen’s F1 camp wanted to “torpedo” the senior management structure at Red Bull.
Various major figures have departed Red Bull in recent times, including Christian Horner, Adrian Newey and Helmut Marko.
RacingNews365 understands that Paul Monaghan is the next senior person to be heading for the exit door as he is set to take up a position at Cadillac.
The series of departures comes at a time when Verstappen’s own future within the team is in doubt, with the Dutchman linked with a move to McLaren in recent weeks.
Speaking to Sky F1, Brundle suggested Verstappen’s corner did “too good a job” of moving personnel out of the team.
“My goodness, they wanted to torpedo the management of Red Bull, didn’t they? Team Verstappen did that very well indeed,” Brundle said.
“To start with Christian Horner, and it just carried on from there with Adrian Newey, Dr Helmut Marko and Jonathan Wheatley.
“Now we know Paul Monaghan is leaving. I think they did a bit too good a job of wanting to move some people out of the way there at Red Bull, did Team Verstappen.”
It has been reported in recent weeks that Verstappen’s management reached out to enquire about a potential future at McLaren.
Brundle insisted that it was simply doing its due diligence and covering all bases for Verstappen’s future.
“It’s a very small world down there, we’re always in the same 400 meters of concrete and asphalt every other weekend,” he said.
“Every weekend, it’s their job to find out who’s available, and also when.
“Ron Dennis [former McLaren boss] used to be a genius at this. He used to have 12 of us on the phone, and we all thought we had a chance of getting in the McLaren.
“All he was doing was just hoovering up knowledge that he was gathering from all the drivers of all the other teams at the same time.
“It’s part and parcel of this rather small world that we’re in.”
