The Architectural League of New York has announced the opening of the 2026 cycle of Independent Projects. The competitive grant program, offered alongside the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), supports practitioners working in the design fields.
Independent Projects provides grants of $10,000 to New York State-based individuals and teams to explore topics or issues in design fields, including architecture, landscape architecture, historic preservation, community-centered design, fashion, graphic, industrial, and interior design.
The 2026 cycle will support 25 proposals that contribute to a broader understanding of design, with an emphasis on artistry, design excellence, and public impact. Applicants should consider how their work may answer the question: Where can design go next?
The Architectural League of New York will serve to publicize program guidelines, receive all applications, confirm eligibility, convene a review panel to select recipients, and disburse grant funds. Individuals located anywhere in New York State, working in any of the aforementioned design disciplines are eligible to apply.
Applicants for Independent Projects are now being accepted, with a final submission deadline of July 22, 2026. More information about the program guidelines and application instructions can be found here.
