Ever since the release of John Wick, co-director David Leitch has made a name for himself as a popular action filmmaker. He followed up the hit 2014 film with Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, The Fast & the Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, Bullet Train, and The Fall Guy. Leitch’s next feature has been generating a great deal of buzz, and Amazon MGM Studios is so confident that it is moving the film’s release closer to the holidays.
Amazon MGM Studios has officially set How to Rob a Bank for release on Nov. 13, 2026. The movie was originally set to open on September 4, over Labor Day weekend. Deadline noted that the change was made by Amazon MGM in an effort to grab a bigger 18-34 audience demographic, which has been responding well to the movie’s marketing. The studio hopes for How to Rob a Bank to play into the Thanksgiving holiday.
How to Rob a Bank follows a group of bank robbers who post their robberies on social media. The movie stars Nicholas Hoult (Superman), Zoë Kravitz (The Batman), Anna Sawai (Shōgun), Rhenzy Feliz (The Penguin), Tati Gabrielle (Mortal Kombat II), Pete Davidson (Saturday Night Live), John C. Reilly (Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story), and Christian Slater (True Romance). On its original Labor Day release date, How to Rob a Bank was set to open against A24’s sci-fi action thriller Onslaught and Paramount Pictures’ historical crime feature By Any Means.
With its new release date, How to Rob a Bank will open opposite J.J. Abrams’ The Great Beyond, starring Glen Powell, and Ti West’s Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, starring Johnny Depp. Amazon MGM Studios also has the Peter Farrelly-directed I Play Rocky, about the filming of the iconic 1976 film Rocky, set to open in limited release on Nov. 13 before going wide on Nov. 20. It is unclear whether Amazon MGM Studios will release How to Rob a Bank wide and I Play Rocky in limited release the same weekend, or push the latter back to its scheduled wide release date of Nov. 20.
How to Rob a Bank continues Amazon MGM Studios’ push for big theatrical releases. Project Hail Mary proved to be a box office hit for the studio, with Sheep Detectives performing respectably. However, Masters of the Universe is shaping up to be one of the biggest box office flops of 2026. How to Rob a Bank is looking to make an impression, but it will face stiff competition over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend thanks to The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, Focker-In-Law, Hexed, and The Adventures of Cliff Booth.
