Six days after lifting the Ranfurly Shield from Waikato, Southland must now defend it against one of the trophy’s most successful challengers, Canterbury.
The red-and-blacks have won the Log O’ Wood 16 times through its history, equal top with archrivals Auckland, and will be hungry to grab the outright lead against the Stags, who will have celebrated wholeheartedly this week.
