Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey’s hit sitcom Daddy Issues has officially been renewed for a third season – but it will mark the show’s last.

The BBC comedy, which focuses on Stockport-based Gemma (Wood) as she comes to terms with life as a mum, and also navigates a relationship with her hapless dad, Malcolm (Morrissey), will be back for a third and final series on BBC iPlayer and BBC Three. A release date is yet to be announced.

Season 3 is set to pick up 18 months from where we left off at the end of season 2, with baby Sadie now in nursery and Gemma promoted at the salon. Malcolm, meanwhile, has just ordered a fancy new washing machine to optimise the laundry.

With things on an even keel for the duo, Gemma decides to dip her toes into dating, but a romantic encounter soon creates a whole heap of problems and there’s only one person Gemma can turn to – her dad.

Wood said of the renewal in a statement: “I’m so happy to be back with David and the brilliant Daddy Issues cast for one final time. Gemma and Malcolm are one of the funniest and sweetest comedy double acts on TV, and I’ve loved being a part of it.”

Morrissey added: “I love doing Daddy Issues so much, such a great cast and crew! So I’m delighted to be coming back to have more adventures with Gemma, Malcolm and the gang!”

Series writer and creator Danielle Ward added: “I’m thrilled we’re getting to make a third and final series of Daddy Issues. The Moscrip’s have a special part in my heart and I’ll be forever grateful to Aimee and David for bringing them to life in such a brilliantly funny way.”

Alongside Wood and Morrissey, season 3 will see Taj Atwal return as Cherry, Sarah Hadland as Gemma’s boss Rita, Sharon Rooney as Gemma’s sister Catherine, and David Fynn as Malcolm’s best friend, Derek.

The show, which premiered in August 2024, was BBC Three’s biggest new comedy launch since 2022, while season two was the channel’s top scripted title in 2025, according to the BBC.
