Huawei and Honor are planning to make significant changes to the camera module for future flagship phones by ditching the long-running big circular ring on the rear panel in favor of a square framework. Perhaps the companies will bring back the years-old format in a new avatar.
FixedFocus has reported that Huawei and Honor will adopt a square camera bump for their future phones. The companies have started evaluating some new components for the lens arrangement instead of the circular frames.
Earlier, the tech giants had been using the circular or simpler camera bars on the back of their devices. Over the years, both Huawei and Honor switched to circular rings.
Mate 20 was the last Huawei Mate phone with a small, squarish camera frame on the back. But things changed after the Mate 30 launch with a rounded camera. P series doesn’t count in the list as it features a rectangular or cylindrical camera shape.
On the other hand, Honor introduced circular camera bumps in 2021. Magic 3 series was the first flagship lineup in the company to feature a circular camera design.
Later, the tech maker expanded this design to many premium and budget-friendly handsets like the Honor X30, gaming handsets, the Digital Series, and more.

It looks like both phone brands are planning to return to the square camera frames for their devices. Following the leak, the tipster mentioned in the comments section that the Ultimate Design phones may debut with a square module this year.
Well, in that case, the upcoming Huawei Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design could showcase a squarish camera framework. Though the details are unclear at present. Hence, let’s take this input with a grain of salt and wait for more revelations on this subject.
