After what felt like an eternity, the most-anticipated film of 2026 is finally here. Christopher Nolan‘s most ambitious film yet, The Odyssey, sees the great director tackle Homer’s ancient Greek epic in his first project since Oppenheimer, which earned just shy of $1 billion at the box office and earned him an elusive Best Director Academy Award. If the gushing first reactions from critics are anything to go by, The Odyssey might find a similar fate, with Collider’s Perri Nemiroff calling it “a filmmaking feast” and others praising it as one of Nolan’s best.
In Joe Schmidt‘s official review for Collider, he called it an “unrivaled cinematic spectacle,” adding, “Nolan prides himself on being a storyteller, and here he pays tribute to the medium that made him a prolific figure in pop culture.” Given that this is the latest film from a man with one of the finest filmographies in 21st century cinema, The Odyssey being discussed as some of his best work to date is truly incredible. Inspired by its success, one of Nolan’s other masterpieces and a film cited by some as his magnum opus, is officially storming the streaming charts.
The film in question is Interstellar, an epic journey through space starring Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway, the latter of whom also plays a significant role in The Odyssey. A sweeping exploration of the biggest and smallest ideas of human existence and connection, Interstellar is both a narrative and visual masterpiece, and one that turned a reported $165 million budget into a global box office haul of $642 million. 12 years later, Interstellar is officially one of the most-watched movies on Hulu in the U.S., at the time of writing.
