There are currently 5,450 estates sitting unclaimed, with no known heirs coming forward.
The estates are held by the Treasury Solicitor’s Bona Vacantia Division (BVD), which deals with the property of people who die without a will and without identifiable blood relatives.
An update published on July 21 shows 16 estates that are linked to people who died in Cumbria.
The individuals, whose estates remain unclaimed, are:

John Leeming, died June 7, 2024, Hensingham
Rodney David McCaig, died September 5, 2011, Carlisle
Eugene McGuire, died August 8, 2022, Carlisle
Diane Meakin, died December 30, 2022, Kendal
John Robinson, died February 12, 2020, Keswick
John Raymond Trott, died August 21, 2024, Hensingham
Geoffrey Watson, died January 19, 2017, Carlisle

The BVD publishes the list to help potential relatives come forward and claim estates within a set time limit.
If no rightful heirs are identified, the assets, which can range from modest savings to significant sums, remain with the Crown.
Anyone who believes they may be related to someone on the list is advised to check the official gov.uk website, where guidance is available on how to make a claim.
