Secwépemc Landmarks Project sculpture stolen: Salmon Arm RCMP

A sculpture that is part of the Secwépemc Landmarks Project was stolen from the Tappen area.

Created by Rod Tomma, Rhona Bowe, Tilkotmes and Eric Kutschker, the Coyote Rock landmark was taken from the Tappen Bluffs, near Skimikin and Platt roads.

Salmon Arm RCMP say the sculpture weighs close to 500 kilograms (1,102 lbs), and would “require multiple people or equipment to move.”

Installed at the Tappen Bluffs in 2023, Coyote Rock is one of 16 landmark sculptures in the Shuswap carved by Secwépemc and non-Secwépemc contemporary artists. Each sculpture features Secwépemc oral histories and place names.

Anyone who may have witnessed the sculpture being stolen, or who has information on its whereabouts, is asked to contact Salmon Arm RCMP at 250-832-6044, and reference file 2026-4539.
