Spider-Man: Brand New Day is right on the horizon and has quickly become one of the most anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe outings in quite some time. This comes just in time to reignite interest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe leading into the next big Avengers film — and who better than to set the bar than Spider-Man himself?
However, some Marvel fans feel Spider-Man: Brand New Day needs to check a few major boxes that the character has yet to do during his MCU career, which started all the way back in Captain America: Civil War 10 years ago in 2016. Thankfully, it seems like that’s exactly what it sets out to do.

Since Spider-Man showed up on the scene in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans have seen him become a focal point in the Civil War between Iron Man and Captain America, travel across the galaxy to face off against the likes of Thanos, and interact with his multiverse variants to fend off half of his most notable rogues’ gallery. They have yet to see him as a grounded, neighborhood hero. Even Spider-Man: Homecoming saw Peter Parker contend with The Vulture, a villain who relied heavily on salvaged technology from the Chitauri: the alien race brought to Earth by Loki in 2012’s The Avengers. Fans have not been able to see a Spider-Man story within the MCU without a threat propped up by either otherworldly forces or tech beyond that of a normal, ground-level hero.
For much of its nearly two-decade run, the MCU has been known to bring fans accurate adaptations of Marvel’s heroes — albeit tweaked in ways to modernize them and bring them to the big screen. Still, many of them — like Iron Man, Captain America, Ant-Man and many others — fit the mold established by their comic book counterparts. This promise of accurate, if not updated, adaptations is something that helped form the MCU’s identity over the years — and, to many fans, it’s something that they’ve yet to deliver on for Spider-Man.
While Spider-Man from the Marvel comic books certainly had plenty of galaxy-spanning adventures over the course of his career, he started as a very grounded hero, primarily looking out for New York while leaving the larger threats to The Avengers or Fantastic Four. Thanks to the final moments of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker is left back at square one. While this is tragic for one of the MCU’s most popular characters, it does open the door for Spider-Man: Brand New Day to finally bring a grounded take on the character — a true friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
Peter Parker Must Reveals The Layers Of His Complex Character
Ever since Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy from the early 2000s, many Spider-Man fans have come to expect certain elements out of a live-action Spider-Man portrayal based on those movies. The primary example there is the organic webbing that Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker was gifted with after being bitten by that radioactive spider. Several casual movie-going Spider-Man fans weren’t even aware that Peter created his own web-shooters in the comics, so when Andrew Garfield’s version of the character debuted in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man, there was an immediate disconnect that may have affected how some viewed that film and its sequel.

Keeping true to the character’s origins, Spider-Man in the MCU also had hand-made web-shooters. If the teases in Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s trailers are any indication, the current version of Spidey may finally be integrating the organic web-shooters into his arsenal. With that said, it looks like that superpower is getting a major upgrade compared to Raimi’s trilogy — with Peter able to use his webbing to take out an entire group of Hand ninjas at once. Fans will see exactly the extent of this new development for Peter Parker when the film hits theaters on July 31, 2026, but it certainly seems like Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be bringing multiple different fan-favorite elements to the table for the first time in the MCU.
