Huawei has been testing in-display screen solutions for quite some years but it hasn’t introduced them with any products to date. Looks like the Huawei Mate 90 series could bring some in-display 3D biometric security features ahead of Apple’s approach.
For the past few months, Apple and Huawei have been buzzing in the market for an in-display camera phone. Reports pointed out that only these two tech makers are currently capable of launching an under-screen camera solution.
Now, tipster SuperDimensional implied that the Huawei Mate 90 series could adopt in-display 3D biometric features. Alongside a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, the flagship could introduce an advanced 3D unlocking method.
Mate 90 series is in the making and there is a high change that it might bring an in-display 3D face tech on board. The latest leak aligns well with a previous report.
The Chinese OEM has been in rumors for working on an in-display 3D Facial Recognition setup since 2024. It was said to debut such a tech solution before Apple, but not with the Mate 80 series. Thus, Mate 90 seemed an appropriate answer here.
If Mate 90 introduces an in-display 3D facial recognition setup, it would be a real breakthrough in Huawei’s biometric technology segment. Such a feature will provide a more secure and convenient unlocking experience to users in all aspects.
Both Huawei and Apple feature a 3D face recognition system with their top-end handsets. Although they now aim to step up to the next level with under-screen tech.
An in-display 3D facial recognition eliminates visible cutouts or notches from the phone’s screen and applies an uninterrupted display design. In terms of security, it offers ultra-secure depth mapping, spoof resistance, and fast authentication.
Note that neither Huawei nor the leak has confirmed the arrival of in-display 3D facial recognition with the Mate 90 series. Hence, take this input with a grain of salt at present.
