While Holland’s Spider-Man spends much of Endgame absent after being snapped out of existence, his return during the film’s climactic battle is nothing short of triumphant. Revived alongside billions of other missing Avengers, Peter swings into the final showdown against Thanos, helping protect the Infinity Gauntlet while fighting alongside virtually every Marvel hero. The emotional centre of his story, however, comes after Tony Stark’s sacrifice. Peter’s grief at losing the mentor who believed in him becomes the bridge between the Infinity Saga and the next phase of his journey.
5. Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
Still mourning Tony Stark, Peter heads on a European school trip hoping to leave Spider-Man behind, only for Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to recruit him into battling mysterious Elemental creatures alongside Quentin Beck, better known as Mysterio (played by Jake Gyllenhaal). What begins as a globe-trotting adventure quickly turns into a psychological battle as Beck manipulates Peter using advanced illusion technology. Forced to trust his own instincts instead of living in Iron Man’s shadow, Peter truly comes into his own as an independent hero. The mid-credit scene, however, changes everything when Mysterio exposes Spider-Man’s secret identity to the world and frames him for murder.
6. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Thanks to Mysterio’s mechanisations, Peter’s identity is now public and his loved ones are in danger. Helpless, Peter turns to Doctor Strange for help, only for the latter to accidentally fracture the multiverse. As a result, villains from previous Spider-Man franchises, including Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Electro, Sandman and Lizard, spill into the MCU, soon followed by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Mans (a welcome entry). However, instead of simply sending the villains home, Peter insists on saving them, a decision that costs him Aunt May (Marisa Tomei). The film culminates in Peter making the ultimate sacrifice, asking Doctor Strange to erase everyone’s memories of Peter Parker (including MJ and Ned), leaving him completely alone, but allowing Spider-Man to continue protecting New York.
