I just read a sentence that must be brought to your attention. There was a series of words in grammatical order with proper punctuation, so, technically, it was a sentence. But it’s still hard to process:
Lindsay Lohan stars in a Parent Trap-themed ad for the Reese’s and Oreo mash-up snack opposite Amy Sedaris playing multiple versions of herself, directed by Oscar winner Patricia Arquette.
Mad Libs was one of my favorite games growing up. So when corporations spend millions and millions doing what essentially amounts to the little notepad game I used to play in the car on road trips as an eight-year-old, it’s a delight. (Whether that’s snark or earnestness, I’m honestly not sure. I guess second-grade Kevin was wasting his time at Little League when he could have been an ad exec.)
The theme of the ad is twins, hence the immediate Parent Trap nostalgia when Lohan appears. She presides over Reese’s Twin Retreat, where she helps twins overcome their differences, since, she winks, twins are something she has experience with.
For this concept to work, we have to accept at face value that a Reese’s cup and Oreo sandwich were always meant to be together to the point that perhaps they were separated at birth, wallowing in their individual forms and only complete and perfect now that they’re one again.
