Broc Feeney during the Perth Super440 at Wanneroo Raceway.
Feeney clocked a 53.6477s to beat Tickford Racing’s Cameron Waters by 0.0550s.
The #88 Triple Eight Race Engineering Ford was down 0.044s relative to the #6 Tickford Racing Mustang at the end of Sector 1.
However, he made the time up in Sector 2 to swing the pendulum to the tune of 0.1s and have a 0.065s advantage before ending the lap just six hundredths faster.
“I’m chuffed. We’ve been on the back foot but there’s blood in the water this weekend, we’ve got a fast car so we’re getting after it,” said Feeney.
“It was a pretty good start to the lap.
“Obviously it was pretty fast in that Shootout, I was pretty close to my time from earlier, it was probably similar to what Cam did.
“I sent it in at [Turn] 6, got it stopped and drove it out and made up about a tenth.
“I can’t thank the team enough, the turnaround this weekend has been fantastic. It’s great to be on pole again.”
Waters was a standout in the Top 10 Shootout too as he climbed from fourth to second.
Grove Racing’s Matt Payne dropped one place to third while Ryan Wood was another who improved session-on-session from eighth to fourth in his Walkinshaw TWG Racing Toyota Supra.
Dick Johnson Racing driver Brodie Kostecki dropped two places to fifth while Anton De Pasquale fell one position to sixth in the Team 18 Chevrolet Camaro.
Blanchard Racing Team drivers James Golding and Aaron Cameron sandwiched eighth-placed Thomas Randle in seventh and ninth respectively.
Randle looked like he might be on for a lap to eclipse Wood’s benchmark, only to fumble the braking zone at the final corner and lock up the right front tyre.
Race 3 of the Perth Super440 gets underway at 3:20pm AWST.
