1:1 selfie camera has become a new topic of discussion in the market, and Chinese brands like Huawei, Honor, and others are now making headlines for bringing this innovation next year. The imaging sensor may debut with new-gen camera flagships.
SmartPikachu on Weibo reported that the top 5 Chinese phone makers – Vivo, Huawei, Honor, OPPO, and Xiaomi will feature a 1:1 square selfie camera in their top-tier phones next year.
The tipster added that implementing such a front-facing imaging sensor will help these phone manufacturers achieve enhanced digital zoom effects during selfies.
Apple was the first brand to adopt a 1:1 selfie camera with the iPhone 17 series last year. All models including the Air variant used the respective front-facing lens solution to capture both horizontal and vertical photos without physically rotating the device.
Unlike the traditional camera sensors with a rectangular shape format, the 1:1 lenses have a square shape. These are further capable of adjusting and even switching between portrait + landscape cropping models based on people entering the frame.
Earlier, Huawei and Honor were in rumor to adopt a 1:1 square selfie camera for their flagship smartphones debuting in the second half of this year. OPPO joined the headlines for testing a 100MP 1:1 selfie camera for future handsets.
Now the tipster claims that not one or two but all five Chinese phone makers can use the 1:1 selfie camera for 2027 top-end phones. If true, this move will increase competition against iPhones that are considered to have one of the best imaging solutions.
It is worth mentioning that none of the brands have confirmed any such new implementation for their upcoming creations yet. The companies will test and evaluate the specific selfie upgrade before seeding it to their devices.
