After a long period of being fenced off and closed to the public, a reflecting pool will soon be reopening after a major renovation. No, not that one.
This reflecting pool is in the center of the Hirshhorn Museum’s sculpture garden, which will reopen Oct. 31 after an overhaul that improves access, creates new areas for performance and contemplation, and increases the garden’s capacity to exhibit art. It is part of a multi-phased Hirshhorn renovation that already has replaced the building’s concrete exterior and will include interior renovations in its next phase, with a start date yet to be determined. The campus revitalization has been spearheaded by director Melissa Chiu, who will leave the Hirshhorn at the end of this month to become director of the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
