As they attended the David Foster Foundation’s star-studded 40th anniversary gala yesterday, which celebrates the foundation’s decades of providing financial support to Canadian families whose children require life-saving organ transplants, Harry and Meghan walked the red carpet looking as loved-up as ever. Meghan, who celebrated her 45th birthday this week, wore a strapless long navy gown by Canadian designer Greta Constantine, with earrings that belonged to Princess Diana. Her husband wore a classic black tuxedo and bow tie to the event at the Victoria Conference Centre.
Talking about their appearance on Friday, body language expert Judi James said the duchess looked “extra regal”.
She said: “Looking covered in ‘Royal sprinkles’ since her visit with the King, Meghan’s body language on the red carpet here looks extra regal and elegant. This one-shoulder goddess sheath dress sets the look off perfectly as she poses with her back upright and her head held high.
“Her eyes pick off the cameras with seamless accuracy and, of course, she is very much the pose monitor, taking the lead and taking control when others come to join them.
“Meghan extends one hand to beckon the other pair into position beside her. It’s a gracious-looking leadership ritual that again adds to the regal effect. Harry is more in the role of usher than leader here, flapping his arms around to act as sheepdog to Meghan’s shepherding.”
Talking about Harry and Meghan as a couple, in what marks their first joint appearance together in some time, Judi said: “Meghan uses a togetherness pose with Harry to register ongoing affection here, pressing into his torso and placing one hand onto his chest in a gesture of ownership as her eyes again greet the camera directly in a ‘My man’ style of celebrity pose and her lips part in a wide, teeth-baring smile of relationship bliss.
“Harry’s hard stare into the camera, his closed lips and the very light placement of his fingers on her back make him look less reciprocal and more subtle when it comes to emotional boasting.”
While Harry spent almost a week in his home country, Meghan spent just a few days there, flying in with their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet for some quality family time.
