The Witcher season 5 has reportedly been quietly delayed.
The upcoming instalment of the fantasy hit, which was originally scheduled to be released sometime in 2026, is now expected to come out in 2027, according to What’s on Netflix.
The publication added that Netflix isn’t thought to have locked in a specific 2027 release window yet.
The fifth season was filmed back-to-back with the fourth, with production wrapping on the instalment in late 2025 – before the fourth season had even dropped.
The report goes on to speculate that the delay may be due to the series undergoing an extended post-production process due to its substantial visual effects, as well as to shift the show’s finale away from other big releases at the end of 2026 such as Black Doves and 3 Body Problem, but there’s been no official confirmation from Netflix as to why the pushback has occurred.
Radio Times has contacted Netflix for comment.

Based on the fantasy series of the same name by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher follows monster-hunter Geralt of Rivia, who was played by Henry Cavill for the first three seasons.
The actor was then replaced by Liam Hemsworth for season 4, who will continue to play the character in the upcoming fifth season.

Netflix is yet to confirm an official plot for season 5, though it will “complete the adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s books” according to Netflix’s TUDUM, taking inspiration from the concluding novels The Tower of the Swallow and The Lady of the Lake.
Alongside Hemsworth, original stars Freya Allan and Anya Chalotra will also reprise their roles as Ciri and Yennefer, respectively.
