Soap fans, there’s some bad news. Sports coverage is about to disrupt scheduled editions of Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
The soaps usually air in what ITV dub as “power hour”, each weekday evening at 8pm. This new time slot was introduced to provide consistency and to help navigate the disruption that the footy causes annually.
However, since then, both serial dramas have been repeatedly shifted to accommodate other programmes.
Today (Wednesday 12 August) is no exception, as the broadcaster will air coverage of the Manchester United v Leeds United pre-season friendly match from 7pm.
Kick-off at the Croke Park in Dublin is at 7.30pm with analysis from John O’Shea and Michael Brown.

Soap viewers will undoubtedly be wondering when their next slice of Weatherfield or Dales action will be. Luckily, you haven’t got long to wait.
Emmerdale returns on Thursday 13 August at 8pm. Corrie airs half an hour later at 8:30pm.
In the Dales, Kev Barton (Chris Coghill) is thrilled by the prospect of teaching son Lewis (Bradley Riches) how to ride a bike. However, he privately fears the idea.

Meanwhile, Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) is determined to put his plan into action with ex-wife Dawn (Olivia Bromley) – to flee the village before her wedding to millionaire Joe Tate (Ned Porteous).
On the cobbles, Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor) is forced to smile when husband Tim (Joe Duttine) arranges for his cousin Richie Parkinson’s (Nathan Sussex) troubled daughter Lucy (Anya Dewin) to come and live with them.
Harry Platt (Joshua Leavy) is a cause for concern. ITV
Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) leaves younger brother Harry (Joshua Leavy) at Little Big Shotz while she heads on a date, but when Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) announced that he’s signed the youngster up for the rest of the week, he’s not happy.
Elsewhere, Toyah Battersby (Jane Danson) warns sister Leanne (Jane Danson) that Idris Nazir (Junade Khan) shouldn’t be trusted, and Hope Dobbs (Isabella Flanagan) makes a worrying discovery in grandfather Ross Wilkes’s (Ian Burfield) wallet.
Emmerdale usually airs weeknights at 8pm and Coronation Street usually airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1. Both can be streamed from 7am that day on ITVX.
