When it premiered in 2021, WandaVision marked a promising new chapter in Marvel TV storytelling. Five years and nearly two dozen shows later, Marvel and Disney are hoping to recapture some of that magic with VisionQuest, which will mark the conclusion of the Wanda/Agatha/Vision trilogy. The first trailer for the series premiered at D23 on Friday, and it gives fans a better sense of what kind of quest Vision is on, as well as how Ultron (James Spader) fits into the picture.
Showrunner Terry Matalas has compared White Vision’s plight to Spock’s in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, and this first preview certainly hints at his inner turmoil. Paul Bettany returns as White Vision, who popped up at the end of WandaVision just in time to be gifted all of Vision’s memories, which he wrestles with in the new series premiering October 14. White Vision may be without his Maximoff family, but he’s still got plenty of company in the form of J.A.R.V.I.S. (James D’Arcy), E.D.I.T.H. (Emily Hampshire), F.R.I.D.A.Y. (Orla Brady). This new ensemble is shaken up by the return of Ultron, who appears in human form with a pretty impressive beard and sounds reasonable enough in this trailer but is probably not far from turning on his new companions.
Just as he’s figuring out this new normal, Vision meets a young man (Ruaridh Mollica) who claims to be his son Tommy Maximoff. As if that family reunion wasn’t enough, Vision also has to contend with the bounty hunter Paladin (Todd Stashwick) and Jocasta (T’Nia Miller, late of Foundation and Gangs Of London), a deadly robot who only wants to destroy the Earth. Where’s Wanda when you need her? Oh, right.
The eight-episode series makes it Disney+ debut on October 14.
