KUTV — Clark Planetarium is inviting the public to join in the celebration of International Observe the Moon Night on October 4th.
This annual event, held each September or October near a first quarter Moon, offers an excellent opportunity to explore lunar science and take part in celestial observations.
Misty Morris, the community programs and volunteer coordinator, spoke to Kari Hawker-Diaz about the event!
A first quarter Moon is ideal for viewing along the terminator — the line between night and day — where shadows highlight the Moon’s cratered surface, providing stunning detail for all observers.
Everyone on Earth is welcome to participate, whether viewing from the brightest city streets or the darkest skies, and no special equipment is required. The program draws over 1 million participants worldwide each year, celebrating both scientific discovery and personal or cultural connections to the Moon.
Clark Planetarium will host two special events in partnership with local organizations:Wheeler Historic Farm (with Salt Lake County Parks & Rec) | 8:00 PM – 10:00 PMViridian Event Center (with Salt Lake County Libraries and Chinese Association for Science and Technology – Utah Chapter) | 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM
Moon enthusiasts and curious minds alike are encouraged to attend, learn about lunar exploration, and experience the wonder of observing the Moon firsthand.
