“After a period of time, the victims managed to return home and police were called.”
A social media post appealing for information says the girls were approached by a group of older teenage girls, who allegedly pretended to befriend them before encouraging them to “hang out”.
It said the girls were lured away from the beach and to benches behind Katsubi.
The post claims the girls were allegedly “beaten and kicked, stomped on, strangled and knocked unconscious”.
It also alleges the girls were “stripped down to their bras, spat on, filmed during the attack and robbed of clothing, phones and other belongings”.
The girls were allegedly threatened with having their “throats slit” if they told passersby they were in danger or reported the incident to police.
It said the girls had suffered “significant trauma” and required medical assessment following the attack.
Williams said the two victims were able to identify “a number of young people of interest to the investigation at a bus station”.
Police attended and spoke with the group.
Follow-up inquiries are being made, “with potential charges being considered”.
“We know members of the public would be upset by this behaviour and police will not tolerate it in our community.”
The social media post appealing for information asked anyone with any information to come forward.
“If you were around Takapuna Beach, the Katsubi area, the nearby bench/public toilets or surrounding streets between approximately 8.00pm and 11.30pm last night, please think carefully about whether you saw or heard anything.
“Any information, even something that seems minor, could help establish the movements and actions of those involved.”
