The general manager of the Karangahape Rd Business Association, Jamey Holloway, said the community was thrilled to have the square reopened, and invited all of Auckland to Beresford Square for this Saturday’s family market.
The CRL is expected to open in 2026. The official opening date is yet to be announced by Auckland Transport (AT).
The cost of the project was estimated at $4.4 billion back in 2019, and ballooned to $5.5b.
Two new stations have been added to the Auckland network – Te Waihorotiu Station, located near Aotea Square, and Karanga-a-Hape Station.
Two existing stations, Mt Eden and Britomart have both had upgrades.
AT said the CRL is expected to increase capacity on its network and decrease travel times most notably from Britomart to Mt Eden station. The travel time is expected to halve.
