An Ennis Mental Health facility has been found 100% compliant in its standards of care for the very first time.

The Mental Health Commission carried out an unannounced inspection of Cappahard Lodge over four days in May.

The inspection was carried out over a four-day period from May 12th to 15th.

During the inspection, there were 13 residents in the former nursing home, which has a total capacity of 32 beds.

Residents have access to communal and therapeutic spaces comprised of two day rooms, two dining rooms, communal bathrooms, a hairdressing room, a dedicated activity room and a clinic room.

During the inspection, one resident met with the inspection team and relayed highly positive feedback regarding staff, food, and activities.

The resident reported they were participating in local community groups and shopping excursions and that family visits were also facilitated on a regular basis.

In a 2023 inspection, Cappahard had been found non-compliant in the areas of Food and Nutrition, Care Plans, General Health, Privacy, Premises, Medicines, and Risk Management Procedures and was found 72% compliant.

On this occasion, Cappahard Lodge was judged to be thoroughly compliant in all areas of assessment and received a compliance rating of 100%.
