A collection of South London street artists and graffiti writers have just finished a large collaborative Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles wall on the boards at the end of Josephine Avenue in Brixton.
Collectively the artists are known as TCS – The Cowabunga Squad/Turtle Chop Suey – a play on their original crew name for this particular project.
The finished wall combines TMNT characters, graffiti lettering and a few different styles across the full length of the boards.
Kris McKenzy, one of the artists involved, told Brixton Buzz:
I’m a Brixton based artist and painted the Michelangelo and Leonardo sections, with the other sections completed collaboratively by friends I’ve painted with for many years.
One of the nicest things has actually been the response we had while we were working on it.
Lots of local people stopped to talk to us, different ages and backgrounds, all saying how much they loved seeing the wall transformed and how much it brightens up that end of the street.
The location also felt particularly fitting given Josephine Avenue’s long association with art and the Urban Art fair.
