Wellington Airport’s southwest pier was briefly evacuated this afternoon after a smoke alarm went off.

Wellington Airport’s southwest pier was briefly evacuated this afternoon after a smoke alarm was activated.

The area was quickly cleared for re-entry, Wellington Airport said.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand was alerted to the alarm activation just before 2.20pm, with two crews responding, one from Kilbirnie and one from
Newtown.

Firefighters arrived to find the activation had been caused by burnt cooking and left by 3pm.
