Wellington Airport evacuated after burnt cooking triggers smoke alarm

Wellington Airport has been evacuated after a smoke alarm went off.

Fire and Emergency responded with one crew from Kilbirnie, and another from Newtown, at 4.19pm on Saturday.

It found the alarm had been triggered by burnt cooking.

Wellington Airport said the southwest pier had been briefly evacuated, with the area quickly cleared for re-entry.

Air New Zealand flight NZ 436 to Auckland had been delayed by 40 minutes as a result of the required rescreening.
