“He was excited for the future of Woodville and its potential to grow following the opening of the Te Ahu a Turanga–Manawatū Tararua Highway and the proposed district plan.
Tararua District Councillor Peter Johns was passionate about his community.
“He was deeply invested in the future of the district and worked tirelessly to help move Tararua forward.”
Mayor Scott Gilmore said Johns’ death was a great loss for the council and the Tararua community.
“We are devastated by our loss. Peter has become much more than a valued colleague, he was also a good friend.
“Peter cared deeply about his community and the people he represented. He brought passion, conviction and a genuine desire to make Tararua a better place.
“He also had a wonderful sense of humour and was a pleasure to be around.
“Council meetings will not feel the same without him. He will be greatly missed.
“Peter devoted many years of service to this district and leaves behind a lasting legacy. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this difficult time.”
Arrangements for Johns’ farewell would be communicated in due course.
