More than 5400 shoppers have gone through the Napier store alone, with each shop supporting a family in need.
Nourished for Nil expected to provide around 3000 shops through both stores in 2026.
Pak’nSave Tamatea owner-operator Andrew Graney said the donation recognised the strong alignment between Nourished for Nil’s work and the supermarkets’ community and sustainability goals.
He said the work they are doing plays a crucial role in the community.
“Supermarkets are looking to reduce food waste wherever we can, and Nourished for Nil’s food rescue is a sustainable, community-focused solution.”
Graney said it was a privilege to help the community through the social supermarket.
New World Hastings owner-operator Kirk Mander said the annual donation supported Nourished for Nil’s social supermarkets, food banks and rescued food work.
“Our teams in every store are proud to support Nourished for Nil, whether it’s setting aside surplus food each day or getting behind appeals in store, they take real pride in knowing it helps local families.
“This donation is a way for all of us to say thank you for what Nourished for Nil does.”

Nourished for Nil founder and chief executive Christina McBeth said the fund’s ongoing, multiyear support gave the charity the certainty to plan ahead.
“This funding means we can keep showing up for our community, week in and week out.”
She said the fund has supported them for many years, and its contributions have grown alongside their work.
“That ongoing, multi-year commitment gives us the confidence to plan ahead: to keep rescuing good food, keep our food banks going, and keep our Napier and Hastings social supermarkets open for the families who use them.”
Funding from Here for New Zealand is one part of a wider partnership.
Local stores also support Nourished for Nil through daily surplus food donations, the New World Family 2 Family Appeal, Pak’nSave’s Cans of Kindness programme, and other initiatives run store by store.
