“The team has identified adjustments needed behind the scenes for the show to continue and today has been about giving our people the time and support they need while also making those changes so we can safely return to the stage tonight,” Wow said in a statement to the Herald.
Attendees of the two affected shows have been contacted about transferring their tickets to another performance or receiving a refund.
Wow said plans were underway to honour the crew member.
“We want to honour this person appropriately; they were a beloved member of our WOW whānau, and we’ll be working with their family and the people closest to them on what that looks like.”
Wow chief executive Meg Williams had previously said the staffer had worked in a “highly specialised area of production” alongside a close-knit team that had been deeply affected by the loss.
She said the decision to cancel the shows had been “an extremely difficult decision” and apologised to fans for the disruption.
“While the result of a medical event – and the production has extensive contingency plans in place – we are dealing with an exceptional set of circumstances.”
Williams said organisers had identified changes they needed to make behind the scenes so the remainder of the season could continue safely.
