Norovirus outbreak impacts three rest homes and hospital ward on Auckland’s North Shore

  • October 9, 2026

“These symptoms can last for two to three days. People with norovirus are usually infectious until three days after symptoms have stopped.”

Healey said some people, including “older, more frail people”, need hospital-level care with the virus.

“You should see your healthcare provider if you have bloody diarrhoea or a fever or if your symptoms have not gone away after seven days,” Healey said. “You can also call Healthline on 0800 611 116.”

Earlier this year, 15 people reported norovirus symptoms after visiting buffet restaurant Valentines Manukau in South Auckland on June 12.

In May 2025, oyster farms in north Auckland were forced to close because of norovirus contamination in waterways.
