The Team 18 Chevrolet Camaro ran out of fuel coming down Mountain Straight, handing the lead to the Dick Johnson Racing Mustang.
Will Brown and Scott Pyre were second for Triple Eight Race Engineering while Matt Stone Racing duo Zach Bates and Aaron Seton were third
The lion’s share of the race was dominated by the #17 Ford Mustang in a relatively uneventful affair until the penultimate pit stop when a slow brake change dropped Kostecki and Hazelwood to fourth.
In the final stanza, Kostecki fought his way by Brown on Lap 155. Only moments later Chaz Mostert crashed his Walkinshaw TWG Racing Toyota Supra to bring out the yellow with five laps to go.
That set up a three-lap dash to the chequered flag. De Pasquale led Bates, Kostecki, Brown and Jack Le Brocq.
Kostecki made quick work of Bates on the restart, passing him at Murray’s Corner. Bates went wide and that opened the door for Brown to go through too.
At the head of the field, De Pasquale stretched out to a two-and-a-half-second lead.
On the final lap, coming down Mountain Straight, the #18 Chevrolet Camaro slowed. Kostecki and the rest of the field blew by, leaving De Pasquale stranded on track.
“We executed so well up until that second last pit stop with that brake change,” said Kostecki.
“Like I’ve always said, the mountain always chooses the winner. We definitely had the fastest car today so super proud of everyone at the team.
“This Ford Mustang was on rails. I can’t believe we won Bathurst in the #17!”
It’s the second Bathurst 1000 win together for Kostecki and Hazelwood since their 2024 triumph with Erebus Motorsport.
“Between the lowest to the extreme highest all within about 40 seconds I think,” he said.
“We were begging for a Safety Car after that poor pit stop. We saw it come out. This guy was absolutely sending it those last couple of laps.
“It was scary to watch the monitor because this guy was driving the wheels off it.”
OH MY GOODNESS 🤯🤯

2026 Bathurst 1000 as it happened
Of the primary drivers, only Grove Racing’s Kai Allen in 11th and Erebus Motorsport’s Jobe Stewart in 17th took the start.
There was drama for the Triple Eight Race Engineering Mustang of Jackson Walls and Jack Perkins when it pulled into the pits on the warm-up lap with a power steering issue.
The problems lingered and ultimately took them out of contention as they lost several laps to the leaders.
From pole position, Seton got the holeshot into Hell Corner and held off Todd Hazelwood.
There was drama at the cutting when James Moffat (Garry Rogers Motorsport) got sandwiched between and Tony D’Alberto (Dick Johnson Racing) and Nash Morris (PremiAir Racing).
Moffat’s right front wheel interlocked with Morris’ left rear wheel, which sent the #777 car into a spin. The GRM driver was forced to pit with a puncture and reported steering damage.
The incident was investigated by stewards but ultimately no penalties were delivered.
The opening stanza of the race was controlled by Seton, who had Hazelwood and Holdsworth in close proximity through to the first round of pit stops.
When the green flag pit stops began, the momentum shifted. Seton pitted on Lap 24 to hand the reins to Bates.
Will Brown and Scott Pye vaulted from fifth to the lead with a short fuel fill. They led Brodie Kostecki having taken the reins from Hazelwood on Lap 25 while Bates/Seton fell to third.
Seton was third followed by the sister car of Jack Le Brocq and Harri Jones. Fifth was Tim Slade after he took over from Kai Allen.
The top 10 was completed by David Reynolds/James Courtney, Anton De Pasquale/Lee Holdsworth, Cooper Murray/Lochie Dalton, Matt Payne/Will Davison, Broc Feeney/Nick Percat.
Matt Payne has copped a five-second time penalty for this move on David Reynolds 😬 https://t.co/44wLvlZkhw

Matt Payne made a nuisance of himself as he tried to make headway. First, he rear-ended PremiAir Racing’s Jayden Ojeda into Hell Corner, forcing the Supercars rookie to wrestle his car in the braking zone.
Payne charged forward and when he got by Reynolds on Lap 31 at Forrest’s Elbow came across the nose of the Team 18 Camaro and forced the Supercars veteran off the road on Conrod Straight.
For that incident, Reynolds was given a five-second penalty to serve during his pit stop.
By Lap 40, Brown was out to a two-and-a-half-second lead over Kostecki while Bates was six seconds back. Le Brocq couldn’t keep up with his Matt Stone Racing teammate as he battled tyre blistering and fell into the clutches of De Pasquale.
How Macauley Jones found himself in the wall at The Cutting 💥 https://t.co/wmcU6PGvqJ
— 7Sport (@7Sport) October 11, 2026
On Lap 46, Macauley Jones spun his Brad Jones Racing Toyota Supra at the Cutting and backed it into the concrete wall.
In an Austin Powers-style scene, Jones spent the best part of a minute turning his car around in the right direction.
Moments later, the Rylan Gray/Tony D’Alberto befell a left rear suspension failure. D’Alberto brought the car back to pit lane with the left rear sagging significantly.
Brown pitted out of the lead on Lap 46. With a longer pit stop to make up for short-filling earlier, he dropped back to third once Kostecki pitted on Lap 47.
On Lap 76, Payne – who was a projected sixth place – was given a drive-through penalty for pit stop infringement. The Grove Mustang pitted from eighth on the road and dropped to 13th.
At the halfway mark, Hazelwood led Seton by four-and-a-half seconds. Pye was third and another two seconds back. Holdsworth was fourth followed by Harri Jones, Murray, Russell, Percat, and Goodall.
As the longest green-flag run in Bathurst 1000 history approached, Kostecki/Hazelwood emerged in front ahead of Bates/Seton, De Pasquale/Holdsworth, Brown/Pye and Le Brocq/Jones.
A key moment of the race for Kostecki came on Lap 124 when he pitted out of the lead with a 20-second lead over De Pasquale.
The team elected to change brake discs and brake pads. They got them off with ease but getting a new right front on proved problematic and ended up costing them 27 seconds.
In one pit stop, Kostecki went from first to fifth.
After Kostecki’s pit stop woes, the battle for first was between Bates and De Pasquale.
De Pasquale, who pitted on the same Lap 139 as Kostecki, brought an eight-second deficit to Bates down to less than a second, whose last pit stop was on Lap 113.
Bates responded to De Pasquale a lap later to bring his Camaro to the pits.
Fuel proved the difference between De Pasquale and Bates. Team 18 spent just 50 seconds in the lane while Matt Stone Racing were idle for 15 more seconds.
Ryan Wood has slammed the wall on the way up the Mountain! 💥 https://t.co/CqDrRYkx5V
— 7Sport (@7Sport) October 11, 2026
Ryan Wood threatened to bring out the Safety Car when he slammed the wall at Reid Park. The damage relegated him to the pits.
Brown and Kostecki ran longer. Brown pitted on Lap 142 with a 10-second advantage over Kostecki. The Dick Johnson Racing Mustang made its final stop on Lap 149, nearly 25 seconds clear of De Pasquale.
Once Kostecki pitted, De Pasquale led Bates by 10 seconds. Brown was third and 15 seconds back of the lead. Kostecki, meanwhile, was 20 seconds in arrears.
The battle for third kicked off on Lap 155 when Kostecki got to the rear of Brown. They banged doors up Mountain Straight.
Coming to five laps to go, Kostecki got by Brown at Murray’s Corner to snatch third.
Mostert is in the wall and we have our first safety car 😱
It’s going to be a sprint finish to decide the winner of the 2026 Repco Bathurst 1000!!!! https://t.co/oBlj719T1z

Then drama finally struck. Chaz Mostert clipped the inside wall at Forrest’s Elbow and crashed heavily to bring out the Safety Car – ending the longest green flag run in Bathurst 1000 history.
Mostert’s car was quickly moved, setting up a three-lap dash to the chequered flag.
Coming to the restart, lapped cars moved out of the way to leave those on the lead lap to battle it out.
Kostecki lunged Bates on the restart lap at Murray’s Corner and cast the Matt Stone Racing Camaro wide on the corner exit, which allowed Brown through.

Up the front, De Pasquale was two seconds ahead of the field. The time in hand was ultimately meaningless. On the last lap, the Team 18 Camaro coughed and ran out of fuel.
Kostecki and the field flew by. Unchallenged, Kostecki took the flag by one second over Brown while Bates was third.
