Cloud Imperium Games has just published the Steam Store page for the upcoming Squadron 42, a single-player Star Citizen spinoff game that puts the narrative and cinematic action front and center. Instead of the multiplayer gameplay mix of Star Citizen. Squadron 42 has also received a promised Q2 2027 release date, suggesting that the game will launch before July 2027. Initially, the game was slated to launch before the end of 2026, and in 2015 before that.

Based on the Squadron 42 Steam page, the game will see players step into the shoes of a new recruit in the UEE Navy, which is engaged in the early days of a galactic war. Players will face off against a number of alien races in a variety of combat scenarios, including everything from space-bound dogfights and ship exploration missions to ground-based FPS-style combat against a variety of alien enemies. The Steam page also hints at choices-matter gameplay elements, suggesting there will be multiple endings or some sort of morals system involved. More details will likely be revealed soon enough, but Squadron has earned 18,000 followers on Steam since the store page went live.

Enlist as a rookie in the UEE Navy and step into a cinematic, single-player space adventure where you are at the center of the action. Live, work, and fight alongside your crew, brought to life by an all-star cast, as the story unfolds across fighter cockpits, capital ships, space stations, frontier outposts, and the front lines of a galactic war. Through intense combat, sacrifice, and the choices you make when it matters most, you will earn your place, your rank, and your legacy. You don’t watch the rise of a hero. You become one.
