What we like about this ASUS ROG Strix G16 gaming laptop
Powerhouse graphics card for gaming and creative work
The RTX 5080 is an excellent graphics card if you’re looking to game at high to max settings in QHD/QHD+ and is a solid choice for ray tracing with DLSS upscaling. For creative work, its generous 16GB of GDDR7 VRAM, ray tracing, beefy CUDA core count, and strong AI capabilities make it ideal for demanding tasks and projects.
Very strong mobile processor
As expected with a GPU like this, this laptop opts for a CPU that’s fantastic for both gaming and heavy multitasking. This Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus packs 24 cores and 24 threads, a 36MB L3 cache, and a 5.5 GHz boost clock speed, which essentially ticks all the boxes for gaming at high FPS with low frame latency, streaming and recording video, a wide range of creative workflows, and much more.

Outstanding ‘does-it-all’ screen
It may not be OLED, but this display is seriously impressive. QHD+, 300Hz, 3ms response time, 100% DCI-P3, with 500 nits peak brightness. I mean, it doesn’t really get much better if you’re looking for something to showcase games at their best, allow for high fps gaming with minimal ghosting and motion blur, and have good enough color to make accurate, critical, color-sensitive edits in creative apps.
Generous amount of RAM and decent storage
With 32GB of DDR5, it’s primed to handle more asset-heavy and demanding titles and has enough headroom for intensive multitasking, too. Its storage is fine at 1TB and helps keep initial costs just a touch cheaper than opting for a 2TB straight out of the gate. It’s a good move if you want to access your storage needs first, and upgrade if you actually need to.
