However, news has been scarce since the announcement. Speaking ahead of the opening Constellation Cup test, Silver Ferns defender and Central Pulse co-captain Parris Mason told the Herald she isn’t feeling relaxed about it at all.
“I’ve got no idea what comes next year. I think being up in the air for a very long time, it’s very hard to navigate because obviously, that’s our lives, that’s our careers.

“It’s been a very hard process because I think there’s just so much unknown, and I think it’s going to stay unknown for a good couple months now.
“It’s a hard space to be in when the future is just not quite there for the people that are still here.”
In response to questions over the progress of the new league, New Zealand Netball Players Association boss Pippa Moore told the Herald:
“Yes, it is taking a little bit longer than we first expected, however setting up a new competition takes time. There is a lot that needs to be worked through and we also know that Anna and Ali want to get this right. We have complete confidence that they will get there.
“We know that this has increased the time of uncertainty for players and that is incredibly challenging for many but they are very excited about the future. The players are being kept informed on a regular basis as details emerge.”
Mason said she intends to remain in New Zealand and wants clarity.
“For the people that aren’t in Ferns and in netball, franchise level is still where we want to build. I think it’s very hard for them because there’s just no stability at the moment and we don’t know what that future looks like.
“So, obviously, a really hard space. I feel for all my friends that are just absolutely not in the know, and that’s really hard.
“But again, back them all the way that they’re going to produce a good thing for us. It’s just hard to be in that waiting game. Patience is key and I’m getting impatient.”
Mason said there was some consolation when NNZ announced the signing of the non-binding term sheet.
“A bit of relief knowing that we will have something and obviously that’s somewhat of a weight off the shoulders. However, the process behind it is just taking a little bit extra long. I know it’s because they want to do really well and I back them that that is why it is taking so long.”

A Netball New Zealand spokesperson said: “We understand that players, coaches, officials and everyone involved in New Zealand’s elite domestic competition are looking for certainty about its future. We recognise that this ongoing uncertainty can be challenging.
“Work on the long-form agreement remains an absolute priority for Netball New Zealand. These are complex commercial arrangements, and it is important that we take the time to ensure they are considered carefully.
“We appreciate the patience and understanding of everyone involved and will provide an update as soon as we are able to do so.”
Player terms for the new tournament would be determined through collective bargaining with the New Zealand Netball Players’ Association (NZNPA).
Broadcast arrangements for the elite domestic competition from 2027 would sit with the investors with support from NNZ.
The governing body has been approached for comment.
The news follows months of uncertainty for players, coaches and staff, with 18 Kiwi players taking offshore contracts in Australia and the UK, including 10 of the 12 Silver Ferns Commonwealth Games winners. Mason and Stars shooter Martina Salmon are the two staying in New Zealand.
The Silver Ferns host the Australian Diamonds in the second Constellation Cup test in Christchurch on Wednesday, having won the opener 56-50 in Auckland.
The statement performance was led by a ruthless display from goal keep Kelly Jackson.
