Elgato has introduced the Prompter XL, a full-sized teleprompter designed for DSLR, mirrorless, and studio cameras, offering a 15.6-inch Full HD display and extended reading distance capabilities. The device combines teleprompting and monitor functions in a single USB-C setup. Let’s take a closer look.
lgato, a brand under Corsair, is known for creating hardware and software tools for content creators — including streamers, videographers, and live producers. Its product line covers capture cards, lighting, control panels (Stream Deck), and teleprompters, all designed to streamline production workflows across broadcast and online environments.

The Prompter XL is managed through Elgato’s Camera Hub software, which controls scripts, scrolling speed, font size, and display brightness. It supports Voice Sync, a feature that scrolls text automatically in response to the speaker’s delivery, and integrates with Stream Deck for quick playback and control options. Because the display can also function as a secondary monitor, users can place slides, chat windows, or call interfaces directly on-screen.
Setup involves attaching the beamsplitter glass, magnetically mounting the display, securing the camera and lens via included adapters, and connecting a USB-C cable to a host computer or compatible hub.

For filmmakers and studio producers, the Prompter XL’s key advantage lies in its larger and brighter 15.6-inch display, which enables clear visibility from several meters away—particularly useful for interviews, multi-person setups, or studio environments where the camera is positioned farther from the subject. Its compatibility with longer lenses, up to 22 centimeters, also makes it adaptable for use with a wide range of professional rigs and cameras.
The single-cable USB-C connection simplifies cable management, allowing both power and video signal through one lead, which is especially valuable in compact studio spaces or streaming setups. The ability to function as both a teleprompter and a secondary monitor adds workflow flexibility, letting users display scripts, video calls, or notes directly on the screen.
However, the Prompter XL is not designed for lightweight or mobile use. At roughly 3.4 kilograms, including its bracket, it requires a sturdy tripod or light stand for secure mounting. Because it depends on a USB-C power source capable of supplying 15 watts, it may not work with all computers or hubs. These factors make it better suited to fixed studio environments rather than handheld or location-based shoots.
