Mary Steenburgen’s son, filmmaker and actor Charlie McDowell, once caught his friends watching his mother’s nude scene in “Melvin and Howard.”
Mary Steenburgen was on Wednesday’s episode of the “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” podcast hosted by her husband, Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson. Danson recounted a traumatic incident that happened in his family.
“Mary did a film, Melvin and Howard, and she won the Academy Award for it,” Danson began explaining, “And she has a scene where she’s buck naked — it’s brilliant and it’s wonderful. Charlie, her son, when he was 15 maybe, he and his buddies are just [on a] Friday night bored and flipping around.”
He continued, “[Charlie] goes out to go get a sandwich and comes back into the room. His friend had innocently landed on that scene.”
“Charlie walked back in and just reamed him out,” Danson shared. “He was so angry: ‘That’s my mom. What are you doing?!'”
Steenburgen and Danson married in 1995, blending both of their families. Mary had two children, Charlie and Lilly, from her marriage to actor Malcolm McDowell, and Ted had two kids from his previous marriage to producer Cassandra Coates, Kate and Alexis.
