A three-year effort to revitalize the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park in downtown Des Moines is underway, beginning with the disassembly of a well-known art installation.The Des Moines Art Center received a $113,000 grant from Prairie Meadows to transform and refurbish sculptures throughout the park. Work started Tuesday to remove “Nomade.” The well-known white-letter sculpture is expected to return, restored, in spring 2026. Grant money will also fund security upgrades and accessibility improvements. “Since 2009, the Pappajohn Sculpture Park has welcomed more than 3.2 million visitors,” said Kelly Baum, the Art Center’s director and chief executive officer. “Thanks to Prairie Meadows’ leadership and commitment, we can ensure this beloved space remains welcoming and inspiring for generations to come.” The free, open-daily park is home to works by internationally known artists.
