During this day of early access, the fair kicked off with brisk sales, led by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/partner\/hauser-and-wirth\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hauser &amp; Wirth<\/a>\u2019s sale of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/gerhard-richter\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gerhard Richter<\/a>\u2019s Abstraktes Bild (Abstract Painting) \u200b(1987) for $23 million.<\/p>\n<p>Art Basel Paris, running through October 26th, features 203 galleries. The \u201cAvant Premi\u00e8re\u201d day is a new addition to the fair\u2019s typical schedule. \u201cThis is for the market, by the market,\u201d said Art Basel CEO Noah Horowitz of the preview in an interview with the Baer Faxt last week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArt Basel\u2019s \u2018Avant Premi\u00e8re\u2019 proved itself today to be a very smart idea that delivered on all fronts,\u201d said Iwan Wirth, co-founder of Hauser &amp; Wirth. \u201cWhen you put great art in front of great people, magic happens on the spot. We just sold our crown jewel\u2014an exceptional 1987 painting by Gerhard Richter\u2014on our stand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Richter sale coincides with the artist\u2019s massive retrospective at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/partner\/fondation-louis-vuitton\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fondation Louis Vuitton<\/a> in Paris and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/show\/david-zwirner-gerhard-richter-1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">solo show<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/partner\/david-zwirner\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">David Zwirner<\/a>\u2019s location in the French capital.<\/p>\n<p>Here, we round up some of the leading initial sales reported by galleries at Art Basel Paris. Check back on Monday for our full sales report.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the Richter, Hauser &amp; Wirth\u2019s top reported sales included <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/lucio-fontana\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lucio Fontana<\/a>\u2019s Concetto spaziale, Attese (1964\u201365) for \u20ac3.5 million ($4.06 million) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/george-condo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">George Condo<\/a>\u2019s Femme de Monaco (2025) for $1.85 million.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/partner\/white-cube\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">White Cube<\/a>\u2019s top sales were led by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/julie-mehretu\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Julie Mehretu<\/a>\u2019s Charioteer (2007) for $11.5 million. Other top sales included <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/georg-baselitz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Georg Baselitz<\/a>\u2019s Dresdner Frauen \u2013 Elke (1989\/2023) for \u20ac2.5 million ($2.9 million) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/luc-tuymans\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Luc Tuyman<\/a>\u2019s Bend Over (2001) for $1.35 million.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/partner\/pace-gallery\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pace Gallery<\/a>\u2019s sales were led by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/amedeo-modigliani\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Amedeo Modigliani<\/a>\u2019s Jeune fille aux macarons (Young Woman with Hair in Side Buns) (1918) for just under $10 million. Other notable sales include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/agnes-martin\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Agnes Martin<\/a>\u2019s Children\u2019s Playing (1999) for $4.5 million, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/lee-ufan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lee Ufan<\/a>\u2019s Response (2025) for $900,000, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/emily-kame-kngwarrey\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Emily Kam Kngwarrey<\/a>\u2019s Alatji &#8211; Wild Yam (1992) for $550,000.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/partner\/david-zwirner\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">David Zwirner<\/a>\u2019s sales were led by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/ruth-asawa\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ruth Asawa<\/a> sculpture for $7.5 million. Other sales included a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/martin-kippenberger\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Martin Kippenberger<\/a> painting for $5 million, a Gerhard Richter painting for $3.5 million, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/joan-mitchell\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Joan Mitchell<\/a> painting for $3 million, and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/bridget-riley\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bridget Riley<\/a> painting on paper for $2.2 million.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/partner\/thaddaeus-ropac\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Thaddaeus Ropac<\/a>\u2019s reported sales were led by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/alberto-burri\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alberto Burri<\/a>\u2019s Sacco e oro (1953) for \u20ac4.2 million ($4.8 million). The gallery also reported sales of Georg Baselitz\u2019s Cowboy (2024), Geste Winken (1995), and Noch M\u00fctzen trug man (2024) for \u20ac3.5 million ($4.06 million), \u20ac1.2 million ($1.3 million), and \u20ac1 million ($1.16 million), respectively.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/partner\/perrotin\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Perrotin<\/a>\u2019s reported sales were led by a work by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/takashi-murakami\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Takashi Murakami<\/a> for $550,000 and a gouache by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/pierre-soulages\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pierre Soulages<\/a> for \u20ac400,000 ($464,000). The gallery also reported selling eight works by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/maurizio-cattelan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Maurizio Cattelan<\/a>, each priced between \u20ac150,000 and \u20ac180,000 ($174,000 and $208,900).<a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/partner\/p-dot-p-o-dot-w\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">P.P.O.W<\/a> reported sales of works by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/kyle-dunn\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kyle Dunn<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/hilary-harkness\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hilary Harkness<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/dinh-q-le\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dinh Q.
