{"id":102938,"date":"2025-10-27T05:16:08","date_gmt":"2025-10-27T05:16:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/102938\/"},"modified":"2025-10-27T05:16:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-27T05:16:08","slug":"league-festivities-lead-to-23-arrests-across-auckland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/102938\/","title":{"rendered":"League festivities lead to 23 arrests across Auckland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  [&amp;_p]:tit-sub-xl tit-sub-xl md:[&amp;_p]:d-tit-sub-xl md:d-tit-sub-xl mb-[1.3rem]\">Twenty-three people have been arrested across Auckland for dangerous and unlawful behaviour during weekend celebrations tied to Samoa&#8217;s league victory over Tonga, with police saying the majority of revellers marked the occasion peacefully.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">On Sunday, Toa Samoa beat Mate Ma&#8217;a Tonga 34-6 at Brisbane\u2019s Suncorp Stadium, landing the team a spot in the Pacific Championship final.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">The arrests, 14 on Saturday night and nine on Sunday, came as officers monitored several town centres across Auckland, including \u014ct\u0101huhu, M\u0101ngere, \u014ctara and Clendon, that traditionally celebrated the two teams.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Police said they observed a high volume of vehicles and pedestrians in these areas, with most enjoying the festivities in good spirits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">However, multiple incidents prompted arrests, including high-risk traffic offending, people riding on top of vehicles, and vehicles doing skids.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-greyDarkFaded\">Police said they observed a high volume of vehicles and pedestrians in these areas, with most enjoying the festivities in good spirits.
