{"id":103984,"date":"2025-10-27T20:08:10","date_gmt":"2025-10-27T20:08:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/103984\/"},"modified":"2025-10-27T20:08:10","modified_gmt":"2025-10-27T20:08:10","slug":"japan-asks-army-to-cull-bears-after-spike-in-attacks-on-humans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/103984\/","title":{"rendered":"Japan asks army to cull bears after spike in attacks on humans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">A Japanese governor says he will ask for the military to help cull bears to protect locals amid a wave of attacks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Government statistics state that at least nine people have been killed by bears in Japan since April this year, an annual record.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Dozens of other injuries have been reported across the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">In the past week, Japanese media has reported a number of bear attacks, including people exercising in urban areas of Akita Prefecture, a northern mountainous area.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Another bear attacked four people before being found in a nearby house.
