A crash north of Dunedin which left two people hurt \u2014 including one seriously \u2014 was caused by a woman “underestimating her speed” when taking a corner.<\/p>\n
A 67-year-old woman was heading north when she crashed into a ute towing a caravan at 10.20am yesterday on State Highway 1, near the Waikouaiti River.<\/p>\n
Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said the woman “underestimated her speed” and took a 65kmh corner at 95kmh.<\/p>\n
The driver of the ute, heading south in the opposite lane, swerved to avoid her, but ran up a steep bank causing the vehicle to flip on to its roof.<\/p>\n
He was left with a moderate gash to his head and taken to Dunedin Hospital.<\/p>\n
The 67-year-old woman was left with serious injuries including a broken pelvis, ribs and ankle.<\/p>\n
SH1 was closed in both directions but fully reopened by about 1.45pm.<\/p>\n
