Late-night hosts recapped Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s state visit to Japan<\/a> as the government shutdown<\/a> continued into its fourth week.<\/p>\n

Jimmy Kimmel<\/p>\n

On Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> Live!, the comedian checked in on Trump\u2019s visit to Japan<\/a> this week. \u201cYou know, when Trump visits, you have to find something to do with him,\u201d he said. \u201cYou can\u2019t just take him for a stroll around town.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo instead, you take him for a stroll inside a palace, where he gets uncomfortably close to the band,\u201d he said over footage of Trump wandering aimlessly through a ballroom with the Japan\u2019s prime minister, Sanae Takaichi<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s like he\u2019s lost at the mall.\u201d<\/p>\n

Takaichi later joined Trump on the USS Washington, where she \u201cgot to hear him ramble to our troops about a range of subjects, including magnets\u201d, Kimmel reported. \u201cHe hates magnets, windmills and sharks. But he loves steam,\u201d as the president went on and on about the steam-powered aircraft carriers, and said he would revert to steam power via executive order.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile Trump\u2019s slurping noodles in Japan, we\u2019re on day 28 of his big, beautiful government shutdown,\u201d Kimmel added. In Washington, the speaker of the house, Mike Johnson, maintained that there was nothing Trump could do about the shutdown. \u201cThe guy who\u2019s ended eight wars, a man who ended wars that never even started, can\u2019t do anything about this?\u201d Kimmel marveled.<\/p>\n

Johnson\u2019s apathetic stance has angered even far-right members of his own party, such as Marjorie Taylor Greene, who reportedly lashed out at him on a private phone call and demanded to see the Republican plan for healthcare. Johnson refused, \u201cbecause there is no Republican plan for healthcare\u201d, said Kimmel. \u201cThe reason Mike Johnson won\u2019t share the plan for healthcare is the same reason George Santos won\u2019t show you his volleyball trophies: they do not exist.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stephen Colbert<\/p>\n

On the Late Show, Stephen Colbert<\/a> started by thanking \u201cthe wonderful people of Japan\u201d for \u201ctaking in our president for a few days, so the rest of us can just have a little break\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cJapan is trying to get on Trump\u2019s good side to escape his random tariff spree,\u201d by giving fireworks and 250 cherry trees to the US. \u201cOr, as it will be known in history books: how Eric Trump started the DC wildfires,\u201d Colbert joked.<\/p>\n

Trump, as commander in chief, also visited with American troops stationed in Japan, and \u201che announced a new military target: it\u2019s you.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Trump put it: \u201cWe can\u2019t have cities that are troubled, we\u2019re sending in our national guard, and we need more than the national guard \u2026 because we\u2019re going to have safe cities.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere it is, in plain English, telling the military he\u2019s going to use them to invade America,\u201d Colbert reiterated. \u201cBut just a warning to the troops: that country is run by a madman, OK? It will take you years to install a democracy by this point.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd those American cities better watch out,\u201d he added, \u201cbecause according to Trump, our military is set to go GI Joe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump continued: \u201cNobody makes equipment like we do, nobody makes the ammunition, the weapons, the missiles, planes, none of it. And if they do, the American sailor stands ready to crush them and sink them and wreck them and blast them into oblivion.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cInspiring words,\u201d Colbert deadpanned.<\/p>\n

Seth Meyers<\/p>\n

And on Late Night, Seth Meyers<\/a> began with Trump\u2019s claim this week that he was getting \u201cthe best polling numbers I\u2019ve ever received\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know if the people around you are showing the real numbers,\u201d Meyers responded. \u201cDid the newspaper they showed you also have a picture of Stephen Miller as a sheriff?\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump and Melania will reportedly host a Halloween celebration at the White House on Thursday, \u201cbut it looks like they already left their jack-o\u2019-lantern out too long\u201d, Meyers joked next to a photo of an over tanned Robert F Kennedy, Jr.<\/p>\n

The White House also posted a timeline in defense of its harshly criticized East Wing demolition that \u201cfeatures so-called major events that took place at the White House\u201d, Meyers said, including the supposed \u201cdiscovery\u201d of cocaine in the White House during the Biden presidency. \u201cOK, but it clearly wasn\u2019t his,\u201d said Meyers next to a photo of Biden sleeping at his desk. \u201cLook at him \u2013 he\u2019s like the bear they put on tea.\u201d<\/p>\n
